We hope you have all been taking advantage of the Eat out to Help out scheme and enjoying the new weekend of Monday-Wednesday. If the busting seams of Harrogate eateries are anything to go by, then you are indeed. We have started back with a vengeance this month, dusting off our purple t-shirts and reacquainting ourselves with our tasting partners in earnest. It has been delightful to see so many of you and meet new people and we’re looking forward to many more. Yorkshire Goodie Box was launched and many of you have taken advantage of our offer and are at this very moment, munching their way through our selection of ‘reet tasty scran’ (delicious food for non-Yorkshires). Ideal for gifts for the foodies you love.
With most people’s summer holiday plans for abroad scuppered this year, then you may be wondering about a staycation, a little break away from it all. Harrogate and York are great destinations, there is plenty to do, great places to stay and they are very easy to get to by train or car so why not plan a break for yourselves. We have a recommended partners page on our website for those looking for accommodation and if you tried one of our food tours and liked it, then go for another. We welcome non vegans on our vegan tours and they not only will be very pleasantly surprised, they get to try out more of our great independents!
You may not be able to travel around the physical world at the moment, but you can travel around the culinary world. Our vegan tour will take you to Greece, Italy and Spain before heading back to North Yorkshire while those on the York tour will visit Japan, Morocco, Italy, France and Spain as well as the Lake District and South America! Not only that but let us further tempt you ‘up north’ by mentioning a couple of events going on.
In York, at St Marys Church, just by the Jorvik centre, they have the Immersive Van Gogh experience, an extraordinary new show that brings his paintings to life. If you want to see the work of this greatly loved artist and appreciate it in all its glory then this is a new way to explore his work, his life and his secrets. Using cutting edge, 360 degree digital projections and atmospheric light and sound, you will be impressed – the show has been thrilling art enthusiasts in Italy and Belgium before rocking up in York where it is going down a storm.
In Harrogate, prepare yourself for the arrival of the 12th Comedy Festival – now a favourite on the comedy scene in the north, between the 5th-17th October, we’re telling you now so you can book your tickets! They sell out fast! This year’s line-up includes Jason Manford and Jimmy Carr as well as Harrogate’s own Maisie Adam (we’re big fans at YA). Culminating in a spectacular showcase on 17th, Harrogate is buzzing with laughter at this time of year so a weekend away, good food, laughter, maybe a turkish bath! – sounds good.
On Sunday 30th August, Yorkshire Appetite will be at the Great Yorkshire Vegan Market in Kirkgate Market in Leeds from 10 am – 4pm. Admission is a mere £5 which goes to animal welfare charities. There will be a range of stalls, great food, vegan products, and samples – a good day out for all. See you there, come and say hello.
