The Afternoon Tea with a Little Extra Harrogate Style is up and running with bookings and everything! As Henry James once said “there are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as Afternoon Tea” and we are delighted to be taking visitors to three great venues to enjoy it. We had fun with Gemma Wilson who is a local food photographer, who took our publicity photos – and of course there was the question of who would eat the food once it had been photographed – there was no shortage of willing volunteers! It is a great afternoon trip for any group and we are welcoming our first WI group on the tour in August! Do have a look at the website for some examples of Gemma’s photos.
Not only did we pick the winner of A Vegan Tour for Two from our Vegan Festival Prize Draw – we area looking forward to welcoming Bini and her friend in September, but we have some exciting changes to our Vegan Tour. We were very sad at the closure of our tasting partner Filmore and Union as Marcus and the rest of the staff were always so welcoming and their goodness bowls a firm favourite on the tour. However we are delighted to be welcoming Harrogate favourite and extremely popular restaurant La Feria. The Spanish, much as we love them, are not renown for their embracing of meat free cooking but the vegan offerings we have for you here will surprise you and delight your tastebuds. The restaurant itself is a pleasure to visit with everything lovingly brought over here from the owner’s beloved Andalucia and the staff are always welcoming. We also have a little something new and spicy for dessert!
Yorkshire Appetite visited The Great British Food and Drink Festival at Harewood House on May Bank Holiday. Despite the somewhat inclement weather, our spirit was not dampened but indeed uplifted by the range of fantastic artisan food and drink offerings – many local to our own Yorkshire. I spotted two of my favourite words on a stand – Hazlenut and Rum – and I have definitely decided their partnership is greater than the sum of its parts! After feasting on a firm Yorkshire Appetite favourite – the humble quesadilla – we were treated to a baking demonstration from Howard from the Great British Bake Off. He made a very scrumptious swiss roll and kept us very entertained in the process, with his mum in the audience giving out wipes after the messy business of tasting said swiss roll! We also made acquaintance with the Harewood Food and Drink Project which promotes the beautiful produce of the Harewood Estate. We happen to know that a certain Mary Berry was a visitor to said project very recently – keep your eye on the telly Christmas Day (sorry to mention it in June!).
Finally, we have another interesting project coming soon in conjunction with Mountain Goat Tours. Just to say, we have been visiting some very tasty venues around the North York Moors and being often overcome by the beauty of this national park on our doorstep. More will be revealed next month.
