  1. Afternoon Tea

Another food experience synonymous with Harrogate. Imagine a cake stand with a beautiful selection of sandwiches, no crusts, yummy cakes and a hot beverage of your choice.  All in a refined delightful atmosphere. You can pretend you’re meeting the Queen or preparing for the wedding of Harry and Meghan.  Choose from Afternoon tea in any of Betty’s cafes around Yorkshire for £19.95 per person or you can really splash out and go for the Lady Betty’s Afternoon tea at £32.95 in the sumptuous surroundings of the Imperial Room at Harrogate or the Belmont Room at York.  An alternative is Mama Doreen’s Cupcake Emporium on Cold Bath Road in Harrogate. At a mere £15.95 per person, the fare is just as delicious and served in chic vintage surroundings.

  1. Champagne Truffles

I have eaten a lot of chocolates in my time, and my all time favourite is Betty’s Champagne Truffles – they are the Queen of all Champagne Truffles. They may be a little pricey at £17.95 but the box is beautiful in itself and the truffles are exquisite. Made of rich chocolate ganache and containing both Moet and Chandon Champagne and Marc de Champagne.  Each one is coated in Swiss Gran Cru milk chocolate and finally rolled in dried raspberry icing dust. They are not perfectly shaped which reflects their true artisan nature.  A luxury lover’s delight.

  1. Gin Passport

For the Gin Lover in your life.  You want to give them a little taste of different gins but in the friendly surroundings of a welcoming bar.    The ‘Gin Passport’ is a little card which can be bought at any of the three ‘So Bars’ in Harrogate, Ripon or Knaresborough.   It costs £20 and entitles the passport owner to any gin and tonic of their choice – four times!  They can choose from the extensive  menu of Mother’s Ruin and try their speciality gins.   So Bar often puts on a special Gin of the week and if you get peckish there is a whole array of delicious food on offer.

  1. Gin Experience

If a passport isn’t enough to satisfy the urge for everything gin related, you could purchase them a Gin Experience!  There are a few to choose from or you can just buy a voucher for one of the open sessions.  Upstairs at the Spirit of Harrogate, they have a great space dedicated to all things gin where they will regale you with gin tales, fill you with knowledge of the history of gin and for the price of £40 you will get all this, plus 4 drinks per guest, gin tasters and delightful nibbles supplied by Weetons.  Other experiences include The Cocktail Master where you will be taught by an experienced mixologist and have the chance to make your own cocktails and Just the Tonic  where you concentrate on Gin’s often overlooked partner, the tonic, finding the ideal one for each gin.

  1. Farrahs’ goodies

In 1840, John Farrah started producing Harrogate Toffee to take away the foul taste of the Harrogate Water at the Pump Rooms.  The Toffee is still going strong and still as great tasting as ever made by the same secret recipe for well over 100 years.   Now there is so much more to be enjoyed at Farrahs, their hand made chocolates, their hand made fudge, a HUGE selection of confectionery, cakes, chutneys, you name it, they have it. PLUS the biggest selection of Yorkshire and Harrogate branded merchandise you’ll find and lots of great small gifts that are perfect stocking fillers.  I dare you not to find something you love there.
