From puddings to parkin, Yorkshire has a rich culinary heritage. Our Taste of Yorkshire Food Tour honours our county’s delicious delicacies. You’ll sample the regional dishes of God’s Own Country in our historic capital of York.
Your local guide will meet you beside York Minster before your food tour. Across the afternoon, they’ll introduce you to four independent restaurants in York serving traditional Yorkshire food.
You’ll enjoy fish and chips cooked the Yorkshire way and savour Yorkshire pudding with lashings of gravy. Indulge in a popular local sweet treat to round off an afternoon of good grub. You’ll also hear the stories behind how and why the food you’re tasting became a regional staple.
You’ll see York on foot, as you wander through its cobbled streets between stops. Take a moment to admire some of the city’s popular sights, including the famous Shambles. Your guide will also share facts about Yorkshire, our people and traditions as you walk between stops.

What to expect on your Taste of Yorkshire Food Tour

Tour days: Selected Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays throughout the year*
Tour length: 3.5 hours
Start time: 12 noon
Meeting place: Your guide will meet you outside York Art Gallery in Exhibition Square

Food
A tasting plate is included at each stop. You’ll have eaten the equivalent of a hearty lunch by the end of your tour. We recommend having a light breakfast before you meet your guide.
Drink
Our guests have shown us that not everyone shares the same thirst. Our Taste of Yorkshire Food Tour includes a drink at one stop, with tap water available at others. However, there are opportunities at several stops to buy beverages to accompany your tasting plates.
Dietary requirements
Unfortunately, we cannot cater for vegans and vegetarians on our Taste of Yorkshire Food Tour. Our fish and chips tasting partner uses beef dripping to cook their food.
We also cannot cater for all dietary or food preferences.

Walking distance
You’ll walk approximately one mile on this food tour.
What to wear
You’ll be walking between each tasting stop, so please dress for the weather. We recommend layers and comfortable footwear, as well as an umbrella and a pair of sunglasses.
Parking and public transport
There are many car parks in and around York city centre. The nearest one to the meeting point is Monk Bar Car Park.
There are also several park-and-ride locations operating on the outskirts of York, where you can park and then travel into the city centre by bus.
York Train Station is around a 15-minute walk from the starting point. York also has a network of buses if you’re staying outside the city centre. Many buses stop outside the Theatre Royal, which is around a five-minute walk from the meeting spot.
Minimum tour numbers
Due to rising operational costs, we have introduced a minimum tour size policy of four guests.
If your food tour has fewer than four participants, we will contact you one week before your selected date. You will have the option to pay a £50 supplementary fee to enjoy the tour as a private experience or reschedule to a different date with a larger group.
If someone books on your tour after you’ve paid the supplementary fee, we will get in touch with you to refund the £50.
