Guided York Food Tour
York Food Tour details
3.5 hours | 4 stops | £75pp
If you’re visiting York for the weekend or on holiday, a walking food tour is a great way to start your trip. You’ll get a true feel for the historic city and know where the best foodie spots are (all chosen by our local team).
If you live nearby, our guided York Food Tour is a great way to rediscover the city, bite by bite.
Your knowledgeable guide will meet you outside York Art Gallery in Exhibition Square. They’ll guide you to locally owned establishments as you wind your way through the city’s streets. You’ll also learn about York’s food history between stops.
But with so many fantastic restaurants in the city, we struggled to pick only four places to include on a food tour. That’s why you have two routes to choose from. You can join our Savour the City Tour on Fridays or our York Food Tour on Sundays.
No matter which route you choose, they both celebrate York’s influences from around the world. From Asian inspired street food to European classics, you’ll enjoy a fusion of flavours. Once you’ve experienced one route, you’ll want to come back again and try the other.
If you’re looking for a more traditional food tour in York, check out our Taste of Yorkshire Tour.

Food
Whether you choose our Friday or Sunday route, a tasting plate is included at each stop. You’ll have eaten the equivalent of a hearty lunch by the end of your tour. We recommend having a light breakfast before you meet your guide.
Drink
A drink is included at each stop on both our York routes. There are also opportunities for you to upgrade your drinks at some locations or buy further beverages at others.
Dietary requirements
We can cater for specific allergies and dietary requirements, including vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free diets.
However, we cannot cater for all dietary or food preferences.
If you or someone in your party has an allergy, dietary requirement or food intolerance, please let us know on your booking form. You can also email [email protected].
Walking distance
You’ll walk approximately two miles on our Friday tour and one mile on our Sunday tour. There are some cobbled streets along both routes. One of the stops on our Sunday tour is up a flight of stairs.
What to wear
Please dress for the weather, as you’ll be walking between each stop. Layers and comfortable footwear are best. Our food tours go ahead rain or shine, so we recommend bringing an umbrella and a pair of sunglasses with you.
Parking and public transport
There are many car parks in and around the city centre. The nearest two to the meeting point are Bootham Row and Marygate.
There are also several park-and-ride locations operating on the outskirts of York, where you can park and then travel into the city centre by bus.
York Train Station is around a 15-to-20-minute walk from the starting point. York also has a network of buses if you’re staying outside the city centre. Many buses stop outside the Theatre Royal, which is close to the meeting spot.
Minimum tour numbers
Due to rising operational costs, we have introduced a minimum tour size policy of four guests.
If your food tour has fewer than four participants, we will contact you one week before your selected date. You will have the option to pay a £50 supplementary fee to enjoy the tour as a private experience or reschedule to a different date with a larger group.
If someone books on your tour after you’ve paid the supplementary fee, we will get in touch with you to refund the £50.

What people say about our food tours
EXCELLENT Based on 348 reviews Posted on Tripadvisor randjjVerified Excellent food tour York food tour started at 12 pm where we met Sara or tour guide, she was very friendly and started by giving us some of York's history. We start off at a cheese and wine venue followed by a Syrian mezze, then on to a brewery and food pub and finished at a restaurant for a sticky toffee pudding and a drink. All the venues were independent no chains, our tour lasted over three hours because we had a big friendly group, we would definitely do it again. many thanks to Sara for a great afternoon.Posted on Tripadvisor KarenSVerified York Food Tour My husband and I were gifted this for a birthday treat and what a treat it was. Joined by 2 other lovely couples we were taken to 4 very different food venues over a 3 hour period. A Syrian starter, main course at a local brewery, a fantastic sticky toffee pudding desert and finished off with a cheese and wine pairing. Jill was a great host, very knowledgable. A lovely way to spend an afternoon in York.Posted on Tripadvisor Ben MVerified The best way to get to know Harrogate We were delighted to be guided around the Harrogate food scene by Kay.
