FAQs

  FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What if the day or date I want is not available?

Do contact us by our contact form, email or phone if the date or day you want appears unavailable. We will endeavour to secure the date or day you want, if we can arrange a guide, we will.

Is there parking available?

In Harrogate, there are several parking areas signposted in the town centre. The nearest to the start is the jubilee car park. The starting point is easily reached by public transport, being close to the station and bus routes and within walking distance of the town centre.

In York, there are some parking areas signposted just outside the city centre but we recommend using public transport as the train station is very central. There is also a park and ride scheme operating from the edge of York.

Are children allowed?

We would recommend that these tours are suitable for those for the teenage years upwards. Some tours serve alcohol and under 18s will be offered a non alcoholic alternative.

Is there much walking involved?

We walk between 1 mile and 1.4 miles on the tours. There are slight uphill sections in Harrogate and cobbled streets to contend with in York. We go at the pace of the slowest walker and you will sit down in the venues. It is a gentle walk.

Do we only walk around and sample food?

Absolutely not! Yorkshire Appetite Food Tours provides a unique walking experience that combines architectural sights and local history and a culinary insight into the best of York and Harrogate’s independent food and drink scenes.

What if I have dietary restrictions or allergies?

Please let us know at the time of booking if you or anyone in your group has a dietary restriction e.g. vegetarian, gluten free, allergy etc. If we know in advance, we will do our very best to provide a suitable alternative.

Do I need to purchase tickets in advance?

To maximise your chances of getting the day and number of tickets you prefer, please book well in advance. Tickets can only be purchased in advance through the website. Cash and walk up traffic on the days of the tours is not accepted.

Do I need to tip?

Gratuities are greatly appreciated although not mandatory. The standard gratuity in the service industry is 15%.

Are toilets available during the tour?

Yes, toilets are available during the tour at selected food tasting locations.

What do we do in case of bad weather?

The tours are held in rain, shine or snow. We do go inside the establishments on the tour apart from one market stop in York which is still under cover. In the case of inclement weather, we walk quicker between establishments. We advise you to check the weather conditions for your day’s event and dress appropriately.

Are tours accessible for the disabled?

Unfortunately, not all locations are wheelchair accessible but if you have mobility issues, do let us know at time of booking and we can make some alternations to the route. For guests who are hard of hearing, please inform us at time of booking and we will provide a written information sheet of the tour.

Does the tour some in other languages?

At this time, we only offer tours in English.

Do you support corporate or private events?

We absolutely do. We can accommodate a variety of special requests, contact us with your requirements.

What do I bring with me?

Bring a camera, bring a smile. Yorkshire weather can be temperamental and unpredictable so be prepared. Wrap up warm and bring an umbrella. Tours take place rain or shine.

Is there anywhere to leave my luggage if I am travelling?

In York we are partnered with Bounce.  Their luggage storage network has 6 convenient storage locations throughout York. They store items of all different sizes for an affordable flat fee and each item stored through their platform comes with a $10,000 insurance protection. Follow the link and use the code YORKSHIRE10 for 10% off your booking.

How much alcohol is included?

All our tours have one stop with alcohol. Please let your guide know if you do not drink alcohol and you will be offered an alternative.  There are opportunities at some of the venues for you to purchase additional alcoholic drinks.

What if I don’t like the food that is being offered?

We choose our menus and our tastings very carefully and the point of a food tour is to taste a variety of foods. We do not offer alternative tastings unless they are to cater to a specific dietary requirement identified at the time of booking. You are under no obligation to eat the tastings if you do not want.

Do the food tours run all year round?

We do offer our tours all year round but do close over the Christmas and New Year period.

Are gift certificates available?

Yes, gift certificates are available. You must book within a year from date of purchase. To redeem them, do contact us through our contact page with your preferred date of tour.

I have a voucher from a third party for a food tour, how do I book?

Please contact us by contact form, email or phone with the details including any reference on the voucher, who it is with and which tour it is for.

How much food is served on the food tour?

It is the equivalent of a very good lunch. We suggest you don’t have an enormous breakfast beforehand!
