Whitby Food Tour details
3.5-4 Hours | 5 stops | £80pp
You probably know Whitby for its famous abbey, whaling heritage, connection to Lewis Carroll and as the setting for Bram Stoker’s Dracula. But it’s also home to a treasure trove of independent restaurants, cafes and eateries.
Our guided Whitby Food Tour gives you a delicious taster of the town’s independent foodie scene. You’ll meet your passionate local guide at Market Place before your tour. Think of them as your food ambassador for the day. They’ll take you to some of the best restaurants Whitby has to offer.
You’ll sample a twist on regional fish and seafood dishes. We couldn’t do a food tour at the seaside without including them, but you’ll also taste and discover Whitby beyond fish and chips. Tuck into Yorkshire tapas at the town’s oldest coaching inn. Indulge in a Japanese-inspired dessert washed down with a local beer, as you relax in a converted museum and chapel.
Stroll between stops, starting at the east side of the town before crossing over to the west side. Along the way, your guide will share fun facts and insights into the food you’re tasting and the town’s rich history.
End your Whitby Food Tour overlooking the popular Whalebone Arch and Captain Cook Monument. Your guide will treat you to cake and hot drink, as you enjoy the picturesque view across the North Sea. You’ll leave full of flavours and stories about Whitby, knowing exactly where to eat next time you visit the seaside town.

Food
A tasting plate or sweet treat is included at each stop on your Whitby Food Tour. Together, they make up the equivalent of a hearty lunch. We recommend having a light breakfast beforehand, so you have a healthy appetite for your tour.
Drink
Our guests have shown us that not everyone shares the same thirst. Our Whitby Food Tour includes an alcoholic drink at one stop (non-alcoholic alternatives are also available) and a hot drink at the final stop. Tap water is available at other tasting partners. You’ll also have the opportunity to buy additional beverages to accompany your tastings at several stops.
Dietary requirements
We will always try our best to cater for specific allergies and dietary requirements. However, we can’t cater for all food or dietary preferences.
If you or someone in your party has an allergy, dietary requirement or food intolerance, please let us know on your booking form and we can discuss alternative options. You can also email us at [email protected] before your food tour.
Walking distance
You’ll walk approximately a mile and a half on your Whitby Food Tour. A portion of the tour is uphill, and some of the streets on the route are cobbled. One of our tasting partners is also up a flight of stairs.
What to wear
You’ll be walking between each stop on your food tour, so we recommend comfortable footwear. The seaside can be sunny one minute and windy the next, so we advise dressing for the weather. We recommend bringing layers, an umbrella and a pair of sunglasses.
Parking and public transport
There are several car parks and parking areas in Whitby. The closest to the food tour meeting point are the Church Street, Cliff Street and Marina Front and Back car parks. Church Street and Cliff Street are a five-minute walk away from the meeting place, and the two Marina car parks are a 10-minute walk away.
Alternatively, if you’d like to park near the end of the tour, the West Cliff Car Park is a five-minute walk from the last stop. It is around a 20-minute walk from the meeting point.
You can easily reach the starting point by public transport. Whitby Train Station and Bus Station are both a 10-minute walk away from Market Place.
Minimum tour numbers
We have a minimum tour size policy of four guests. If your food tour has fewer than four people, we’ll contact you one week before your selected date.
You will have the option to pay a £50 supplementary fee to enjoy the tour as a private experience or reschedule to a different date with a larger group.
If someone books on your tour after you’ve paid the supplementary fee, we will get in touch with you to refund the £50.

What people say about our food tours
EXCELLENT Based on 352 reviews Posted on Tripadvisor Gillian SVerified Beautiful Harrogate What an amazing tour of Harrogate! . Kay, our lovely guide showed us around telling us historical and fun facts about this beautiful town. The places she chose to stop for food and drinks were a great mix and it was lovely to support small businesses. We were part of a fun group of people and the sun was shining so it was a very pleasant way to spend a few hours! We would definitely recommend this tour.Posted on Tripadvisor Alexandra DVerified Great experience! Would thoroughly recommend. Great mix of good and information about Harrogate with a lovely group of people. Kay got the perfect balance between the food, the tour and the information. Thank you!Posted on Tripadvisor Louise IVerified Hidden foodie gems with excellent commentary What a lovely time we had on the York Foodie Tour ☺️ Kay was really knowledgeable about York with some interesting and fun facts. Restaurants were just perfect … and some off the beaten track so it was great to find some hidden gems. Starters in one, mains in another, then onto dessert finished off cheese and wine 🍷. Kay was great company as well 👍. Truly enjoyable, highly recommend *****Posted on Tripadvisor randjjVerified Excellent food tour York food tour started at 12 pm where we met Sara or tour guide, she was very friendly and started by giving us some of York's history. We start off at a cheese and wine venue followed by a Syrian mezze, then on to a brewery and food pub and finished at a restaurant for a sticky toffee pudding and a drink. All the venues were independent no chains, our tour lasted over three hours because we had a big friendly group, we would definitely do it again. many thanks to Sara for a great afternoon.Posted on Tripadvisor KarenSVerified York Food Tour My husband and I were gifted this for a birthday treat and what a treat it was. Joined by 2 other lovely couples we were taken to 4 very different food venues over a 3 hour period. A Syrian starter, main course at a local brewery, a fantastic sticky toffee pudding desert and finished off with a cheese and wine pairing. Jill was a great host, very knowledgable. A lovely way to spend an afternoon in York.Posted on Tripadvisor Ben MVerified The best way to get to know Harrogate We were delighted to be guided around the Harrogate food scene by Kay. A really great mix of genuinely local and excellent food and some really great insights into the history of the establishments and of Harrogate as a whole. This was our second walking tour (the last was in York) but this time we had a private tour which was well worth the £50 supplement charge. Tried a variety of new food that neither of us had tried before. Great selection of venues and incredible local history knowledge. Would highly recommend to anyone that enjoys food, history and good company.
