They’re all part of the Team!
March Newsletter

This month we are introducing you to the local producers that supply our Tasting Partners enabling them to serve such delicious local fare. But before we do, let us introduce you to another new member of the teaml
Greg is a York local having lived in the city most of his life and currently living in the very centre along with his cat, Percy. He has a long background in hospitality and has travelled to far flung places and experienced cultures and cuisines around the world. When he is not guiding our visitors around York, he enjoys creating art of the city which he exhibits in local venues. Welcome to the team, Greg!
Those of you who have visited Starling Bar Café Kitchen in Harrogate will know they do fantastic coffee, but where does it come from? Dark Woods Coffee is based in a Victorian Textile mill in Marsden Village in the West Yorkshire Pennines, next to the Huddersfield Narrow Canal and the River Colne. The adventurous coffee roasters only use speciality grade coffees with clean, distinctive flavour, all traceable to skilled growers around the world. Dark Woods Coffee was founded in 2013, building on many years’ experience in the UK Coffee Industry. They roast each batch of coffee in a gas-fired 1950’s German Drum Roaster. Dark Woods Coffee are certified as meeting the highest standards of social and environmental impact and are the only coffee company to have won two “Golden Forks” in the Great Taste Awards. Starling has as its delicious house blend “Under Milk Wood”, one of the Dark Wood’s three core ranges, a medium-roast coffee with notes of caramel, stewed fruits and praline. A favourite coffee for our Food Ambassador Jill to start off our classic Harrogate tour.
Yorkshire Appetite’s York Partner Ippuku Tea House has been offering modern but still authentic Japanese style food, tea and drinks in the centre of York since 2017. “Ippuku” means "a cup of tea" in Japanese and they encourage you to cherish every cup of tea whilst showcasing the ideals of the Japanese life-style. Their online shop ippukutea.co.uk supplies high quality Japanese green tea and Louise, our Food Ambassador, loves and recommends the Ippuku Matcha. Ippuku Tea house is gluten-free and vegan friendly.
Kendalls Farm Butchers are a fourth generation traditional butchers, with locations in Pateley Bridge, in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales and in Harrogate. Their mission is to source the highest quality Yorkshire meat directly from the Pateley Bridge, Skipton, Otley, Thirsk and Northallerton auctions. Kendalls, of course, supply their fantastic product to Yorkshire Appetite’s partner Yorkshire Tapas, where the classic tour always enjoys the 30-hour slow cooked beef. Kendalls also have a great online shop.
Manna Bakery in Harrogate supply wonderful artisan breads and cakes to several of our Yorkshire Appetite Partners, including the specially created carrot cake for Vanilli’s carrot cake ice-cream, and the breakfast muffins for Starling’s brunches. "Manna is the bread that came down from heaven" but this bakery started in Harrogate on our favourite Cold Bath Road and now has a cosy eatery so you can sit and enjoy the cakes and pastries with your morning coffee. They aim to use locally sourced ingredients and are true artisans in the heart of Harrogate.
Feel free to try these suppliers for yourself. Other news coming up shortly to watch out for – New Harrogate Tour; a chance to try yet more of the town’s great eateries and Appetite Food Club; food and friendship. Watch this space!
