Competition - Win a Food Tour
August 2023

Before I launch into the main business of the day (the chance to win something special) a reminder that there is only two weeks to book onto our final Summer Tasting Tour of Otley on 2nd September. A lovely way to round off the summer holidays on a Saturday tasting the delicious produce of this traditional market town. Limited places left, get cracking here.
Our new tour coming up towards the end of the year is an Indian Food Tour of Leeds. Those of you familiar to the area will know that Leeds has a special reputation for this cuisine with some of the top places to eat fantastic south Asian dishes. We always have a couple of run throughs of our tours before we launch and of course we need some guinea pigs. We have a competition running until the end of September to win two free places on one of our run throughs. All you have to do is send us a short video, 30 seconds or less, talking about your favourite food place in Yorkshire, your favourite Yorkshire Food or your favourite food tour of course (ahem). More details of how to enter and the prize you can win here.
I have done a couple of food tours in the last month or so to tell you about. Not only did I enjoy the tastes and flavours of the new destinations and meet their great guides – shout out to Dom and Skye – but I took some video footage to show you what to expect and give you a flavour of the tours (see what I did there). These videos are going on our Yorkshire Appetite YouTube channel. I know! We are moving into the Tube so I expect you to get subscribed. Ok, there are only a couple of videos on there at the moment, but we will build slowly – with a small team it takes a while but keep your eyes peeled and subscribe here!
Let me tell you all about the food tour we tried while up at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Scotland traditionally had a bad reputation for food with many naming the national dish as either haggis or deep-fried Mars bars. Things have changed these days with top Scottish chefs like Gary Maclean and Tom Kitchin. Edinburgh is fast becoming the gourmet destination with 5 Michelin starred restaurants from the total of 12 in Scotland. While there were no Michelin stars on the food tour, we did try a variety of good Scottish food – yes, haggis was involved and a very delicious scone with jam and cream. No, I didn’t know that Scone was an actual place in Scotland up in the somewhere, although it is pronounced ‘skoon’, just to confuse the matter. My sweet tooth was delighted by the cranachan and ice-cream, my throat was warmed by Scotch whisky but my favourite taste was the Cullen Skink – a very tasty fish chowder with leeks and tatties. Our guide, Skye (yes real name) is a transplant from the States who has made Scotland his homebase for the last eight years and fed us great knowledge about the history and many food facts! You know how much we love a food fact at Yorkshire Appetite. We finished armed with a whole array of recommendations to further explore so now we might have to visit again!
We hope you are all enjoying the summer holidays and if you are eating or talking about food, film a short video to enter our competition and you may be the first to try our exciting new food tour coming soon!
