October has been Cheese-tastic!
October 2022

Hope you all enjoyed the Yorkshire Food and Drink Festival this year. We were delighted to see Fran from Ippuku Tea House demonstrating how to cook some tasty Japanese recipes – as those of you who have experienced the York food tour will know, they are truly delicious. We are now looking forward to the next local food event – the Great White Food Festival with Marco Pierre White at the Harrogate Convention Centre. See if he’s up to Fran’s standard!
Don’t forget our Otley Tour on Wednesday 16th November, some places still available to experience some delicious food and maybe do a bit of culinary Christmas shopping at the same time (no obligation!). Drop us an email if you’re interested.
We love good food and here at Yorkshire Appetite, we take our role of Food Ambassador very seriously! So, when we set off on our travels, we always look for unusual, well reviewed (or both) venues to tickle our tastebuds. Our quest to explore the UK’s finest eateries took us to the Scottish borders, the Northumberland coast and Edinburgh.
Our first destination was The Potted Lobster in Bamburgh. It is renowned for its fresh locally sourced seafood which is prepared every day with ingredients from local farms and artisan producers. We decided to sample the specials of the day. Lemon poached sea trout with asparagus and new potatoes was light and delicious. The other diner selected seared scallops with boudin noir (black pudding) and quince jelly which was pronounced as the best scallops he had ever tasted. This was followed by pan-fried fillet of halibut with lobster truffle mayo.
After giving ourselves a day to digest all this deliciousness, we headed by train to Edinburgh. We had read about a Cheese Lounge in Morningside and so were determined to track it down. A lounge of cheese – who wouldn’t want to go there?!
We discovered that it had opened in the back of the well-established I.J. Mellis Cheese monger, in 2018. We love a great cheese and wine pairing here at YAFT HQ so we sampled the signature cheeseboard with local and unusual cheeses, including an English brie . Our server recommended a Lucien Lardy Beaujolais and a Divin Poison Melon de Bourgogne which were the perfect accompaniment. It’s a delightful, cosy venue so booking is essential. We will be going back as there were many more delicious morsels to try!
With the British Summertime coming to an end – make sure you taste the great seasonal delights of Parkin and Bonfire Toffee and of course, Vanillis Spiced Pumpkin, pecan and caramel ice cream! Maybe with some cheese…….
