Onwards and upwards for our Tasting Partners!
November 2022

Our tasting partners are very special to us. They host us every week on the tours with a smile producing the same high quality food for us every time. So this month we were delighted to celebrate with two of our venues who have been with us since the start.
Ippuku Tea House in York have just celebrated their fifth birthday. Fran and her fantastic team threw a great party to say thank you to all of those who have supported them over the years and in her speech talked about how many challenges have been thrown at them over those five years. Who could have predicted the pandemic, high inflation, an energy crisis and staff shortage – and a heatwave! We have to say they are true heroes for keeping going through all that and still greeting us with big smiles and a great positive attitude, the team are so supportive of each other they deserve their success. There was some fantastic Japanese food and drink on offer and a great mix of customers, suppliers and even the University Japanese Society. It made for a very jolly Monday evening despite the pouring rain!
Torrential rain also did not stop the party this week either when Starling Independent Bar Café Kitchen reopened its doors after a three week closure to expand. What a great job they have done. The downstairs space is completely transformed and no longer will passing customers peer in and think there is no room (of course those who have entered and been upstairs have often been known to use the word ‘tardis’). A fantastic bar and service area for the staff and more tables to serve their delicious offerings. In three weeks, Simon, Dan, Alex and the rest of the team have done an amazing job and we are delighted to continue to bring our visitors to Starling. Always a very warm welcome. Go and check it out!
Jespers Bar and Kitchen is a new venue for us in Harrogate. Formerly Hustle & Co, it is now under the ownership of Jesper himself who some may know from Bacchus wine bar – a great personality and with a huge knowledge of wine. They will be closed this week for a small refurbishment to put his own stamp on things; this little gem is worth visiting and I’m sure will become a favourite for visitors to Harrogate.
In York, we have welcomed Parlormade Scone House to the tour. Run by Pong and his partner, they produce freshly baked scones every day with flavours from the traditional fruit to the more exotic and even festive. Located in a cosy 15th century building on the edge of the Shambles market. This is also a tardis – so don’t be put off by the tiny shop and get up those stairs and enjoy the scones!
Don’t forget that while you’re in town visiting these venues for your Christmas Shopping, you can spend more time eating and drinking and less time shopping by getting online and buying your nearest and dearest one of our gift voucher for Christmas. Perfect for those difficult-to-buy- for or vegans in your life. You receive an electronic gift card but if you want an actual physical card and envelope, once you’ve bought your gift voucher, drop us an email with your address and we can send one out. We will be at the Christmas Artisan Market in Valley Gardens, Harrogate on 4th and 11th December so please come along and say hello!
