SUMMER SPECIAL OFFERS ON TOURS
May 2023

Now you have all recovered from the double whammy of King Charles’ coronation and Eurovision, I suspect you will be looking forward to the summer. So to celebrate, we have a couple of offers that might be of interest. First of all, we have a special Father’s Day offer where you can give your Dad the gift of an experience, let’s face it, he probably has enough socks. This offer includes a voucher for 2 for any one of our food tours plus a little tasty treat so he can scoff it on the Sunday and still have something else to look forward to. The added bonus of this gift is that he can take you! or your mum/ his significant other and you’ll get brownie points – everyone’s happy. Click here for offer.
We also have a super offer of a Summer Tasting Tour. It’s a version of our Otley Artisan Tour where you can spend a Saturday afternoon with our Otley expert Jill visiting the local food artisans of the town and learning about the history of this ancient trading town. The finale is a fantastic feast of their products washed down with a local beverage! We have three Saturdays for you to choose from this summer and with limited places only get yourself booked and take advantage of this great offer and a sunny afternoon (hopefully) by the River Wharfe. Click here to find out more.
The Yorkshire Appetite Tour of France is nearly at its end. I want to say a big thank you to all of you who supported our Crowdfunding campaign to have our book published. We have reached our fundraising target – but don’t worry you still have 4 days left if you want to take advantage of the rewards offered for supporting us! Click here. We have been writing away in between the exploring and tasting of French regional specialities so progress is good.
We are finally au fait (that’s French you know) with the opening hours of France. It kind of takes us back to our childhood where Sundays were about being bored and only having the choice of watching Ski Sunday or Songs of Praise. If you were lucky (!) you got to go on a bracing walk on Ilkley Moor (you mean that was just OUR childhood?). France is largely closed on a Sunday and to be honest, on Monday too, but on the other days there is still the excitement of guessing the opening hours because everyone likes to be different. We have also finally been able to get our coffee order right, obviously we avoid tea because you can’t beat Yorkshire Tea. The French love a small coffee so we have gone for choosing an allongé – meaning a long one although sometimes we can still get a cup suitable for an elf. Orders along the line of a decaffeinated skinny americano with a bit of cold milk is met with confused stares – and it’s not just my terrible French accent, honest.
At this moment, we are in Dijon and yes they love mustard. In fact, did you know on average, each French person eats 2 kg of mustard a year, whereas in Germany, also mustard enthusiasts, they only eat 500g a year. That’s a lot of mustard – and it’s a hot one too. We drove past many of those beautiful yellow mustard fields on our way from Lyon, the Gastronomy capital of France. Their specialities include a pink praline in every cake, bread and tart form you could desire and of course they love a potato. We had to work for our lunch there as one way to spend your lunch hour in Lyon is to take part in a cooking class. A 30 minute experience where a chef demonstrates and helps you to cook your own lunch and then you companionably sit down with your classmates and enjoy the food you worked for. In this case, Jean Philippe helped us create a goats cheese and pea risotto with prawns in thirty minutes. With instructions in super quick French it was a challenge but we rose to it and nothing tastes quite like your own food prepared in a top of the range kitchen!
So until next time, don’t forget to take advantage of our great summer offers and à toute à l’heure.
